Catalogue of linoleums
Barry, Ostlere & Shepherd Ltd., publisher, about 1905
This image is from a catalogue of linoleums produced for manufacturer Barry, Ostlere & Shepherd Ltd in about 1905.
Linoleum was a new material at the turn of the century. It was popular with British consumers because it was hardwearing and often designed to look like more expensive floor coverings such as woven carpets.
This linoleum is designed to imitate costly wooden parquet flooring. It would have been suitable for living rooms, dining rooms and hallways.
