wall covering

designed by Day, Robin,
Mayfair, about1972

This wallpaper sample was designed by Robin Day in about 1972. It is a ready-pasted polyester foil wallpaper with a pattern in black, grey and silver. In the early 1970s, people experimented with wallpaper that used shiny foil finishes. This wallpaper was used by the donor to decorate their bathroom in a house in New Barnet in July 1978. The design was also manufactured as a carpet in about 1972. It was known as ‘Discus’ and featured in an article in Architectural Review of March 1972.
