Powerful electric light bulbs were made available in the 1930s. The new, stronger light they produced meant that increased shading was needed for light fittings. Many new fittings and shades were on sale to meet increased consumer demand. They were designed to look different from earlier gaslights in order to emphasise their clean and modern energy source.
