designed by Silver Studio; manufactured by Gartside & Co Ltd, 1905
This printed cotton textile was designed by the Silver Studio for Manchester-based manufacturer Gartside & Co Ltd in 1905.
The fabric uses a very simple, small scale art nouveau flower motif in blue and green. Plain, two-dimensional flat patterns such as this were popular in the early 20th century when sinuous flowers and curving leaves were favoured in fashionable homes. However, this pattern is much less complex than other popular designs from the period.
