This wallpaper entitled ‘Moss’ was designed by John Aldridge for Cole & Son Ltd between 1938 and 1939. John Aldridge was a London-based artist and designer who created wallpapers for Cole & Son Ltd in the 1930s and early 1940s. After the Second World War, he taught at the Slade School for Fine Arts at University College London. This particular design uses stylised moss and lichen forms. It resembles pattern papers that were used to line chests and boxes in the nineteenth century.
