Flowers in Britain : wild, ornamental and economic and some relatives in other lands
Publication

Brimble, L. J. F., Author,
Macmillan & Co. Ltd - London, Publisher, 1944

The cover of this book not only indicates the subject of the book, but where it is based. The artist has set the scene with this beautiful hand illustration of flowers in the countryside, looking out on to the white cliffs of the south coast. The cover also shows how paint can be applied loosely and still create a life-like effect. The blossom on the top of the page for example is painted with pinky-white blobs which only appear as blossom when viewed in relation to the rest of the cover.
