This chintz wallpaper was produced in about 1870 by an unidentified manufacturer. This particular wallpaper is machine printed using distemper, which is a kind of paint used in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. The simple stylised flattened pattern of flowers and leaves on trailing stems used here was popular in the mid-Victorian period.
